Béla Bartók is the most important composer of 20-th century Hungary, indeed one of the most important of the whole century.
Bartók is a “national” composer insofar that he collected authentic folk music by going into the deepest provinces of the country with his phonograph, recording folk songs and dances, and preserving them for eternity. This music he incorporated into his own highly individual style, which is truly modern, tonally and rhythmically.
His orchestral works include the world famous Concerto for Orchestra, which was premiered in America, and made his universal fame.
This set includes his most important orchestral works, expertly and idiomatically performed by the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by rising star Adam Fischer
