Mahler did not complete his 10th symphony before he died, leaving only sketches for the work.Several scholars/musicologists have attempted to reconstruct the work from the sketches, with various success. Now Rudolf Barshai made his own reconstruction, a major event for all music lovers and Mahler aficionados!
The recording was made in the Berliner Philharmonie on 12 September 2001, the day after the terrorist attacks in New York: and a very emotional performance it was. The orchestra is the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, an excellent orchestra which plays like the best orchestras in the world, under the inspiring baton of Rudolf Barshai himself.
Brilliant issued this CD in a 2-CD set, together with a highly acclaimed performance of Mahler's 5th symphony, by the same orchestra and conductor. There is a huge potential for publicity here: a budget label issuing a new reconstruction of Mahler 10th, never issued before!
