Somehow his piano concertos are much more popular. Mozart himself was also a violinist and his works for this instrument certainly rank among his best. His five violin concertos show a distinct development. From the first one, already a masterpiece, with Italian influences to the fifth, with its larger role for the accompanying orchestra.
The soloist, Giuliano Carmignola, is both accomplished on the modern and the Baroque violin. For these recordings he played on a 1733 Pietro Guarneri. Carmignola’s performances almost sound like chamber music. He has chosen the musical approach, not the virtuoso one.
Intimate and warm performances of these beautiful concertos. Both the Rondo and the Adagio for violin and orchestra (K261 and K373) also included as well.
