Franz Schubert managed to squeeze as many as 9 symphonies –give or take one depending on which ordering one follows – into his huge output. And they are no mean part of it either. As a symphonist this composer became a true successor of Haydn and Beethoven and was even looking ahead to Bruckner in his ninth symphony.
Fresh-sounding performances by the Hanover Band under Roy Goodman who have achieved quite a lot where “authentic performances” of classical music for orchestra are concerned.
