The year 2003 will be the International Berlioz-year, as it will be 200 years ago that the great French composer was born.
Hector Berlioz was the most romantic of the Romantics. His turbulent life was full of adventures, dramatic failings and heroic victories. His music reflect his personality: flamboyant, extreme in its emotional outbursts and often inspired by extra-musical images, like poetry and pictures.
This 11-CD set presents his greatest works: the Symphonie fantastique (his undisputed masterwork), Harold en Italie, La Damnation de Faust, Roméo et Juliette, l”Enfance du Christ, Te Deum and the great Requiem. In these dramatic vocal works he created new musical forms, between opera, oratorio and cantata.
